Wii Party

Wii Party at Joel's house Wednesday night...

Tennis. Not my fave but none-the-less entertaining.

Mario Kart on the wall. Margaritas on the table.

Boxing... with Christopher Fandey. What can I say?

Don't let me fool you... I was not the only girl.

Nice jab husband!

We are too tired of playing Wii. It is time for bed.

A Birthday At The Races...

We spent my birthday this year down at the old Del Mar race track bettin' on the ponies. Ahhhhhh nothing better than a Sunday at the races. Here is my big winner, #7 in the fourth race 'World War.' Warm day, wonderful breeze, cold beer, family, beautiful Del Mar...

Come on... you know the old Bing Crosby song... "Where the turf meets the surf, down at old Del Mar... take a train, take a plane, take a car...

...There's a smile on each face, and a winner in each race, where the turf meets the surf.. at Del Mar."

There were lots of hats and next year I am totally getting one. One year I would love to go on the track's opening day where they have the famous hat contest. Just as fun as the hats is all the crazy names of the horses - names like 'My Friend Luis,' 'Desertstormelite,' 'Guns On The Table, 'Tap It Light,' and my favorite - 'Smoocher.'

Birthday number 25 was a good one. See you again soon Del Mar.

The place really is still as cool as ever.

Birthday Surprise!

So I have had this wingback chair for more than four years now, sitting collecting dust and webs. It was originally covered in a hideous textured fabric, kind of like the color of old butter. But having received for free, I had high hopes of having it recovered in one of my favorite fabrics of all time, Norfolk Rose from Waverly. I even bought eleven yards on sale at Joanne's in anticipation of getting it done in a hurry for when we got married - I thought it would be a snap. Then I found out that it would be around $300 to have reupholstered. HAHAHAHAAA. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN ANYTIME SOON. That roll has been in the closet for two years. And the chair? Still collecting more dust and more webs in the garage.

But then, this Saturday something glorious happened...

For my birthday Billy and his mom schemed to have my wingback chair recovered as a gift from her and Bill and Brian and Heather (brother and sister-in-law in Texas). It was a total surprise! I came home Saturday to find Billy and his parents in the living room there to surprise me with the chair - dude, I was in total shock. Doesn't it look amazing??

This fabric is more gorgeous on the chair than I even imagined.

And the details? Holy cow, they are just wonderfully crafted. The shop even sanded and re-varnished the legs , which were totally scuffed and nicked. I am still in shock that it is done after all these years and I can't wait to make a contrasting pillow to go on it and maybe even find a matching foot rest that I can recover in the leftover fabric I have. And I think I am going to put a floor lamp beside it too.

The funniest part was that the chair that had been in the garage and the huge roll of upholstery fabric that had been in the office closet had been out of the house for weeks leading up to this - and I didn't even have a clue. That big chair that took up so much space in our little garage was gone and I didn't even notice! Shows you how much I was paying attention!

Thank you sooo much Bill and Susan and Brian and Heather! It is such a wonderful Birthday gift; more that I could have ever asked for!

Dear Big Dino,

I have a confession to make.'s not like you think but.........well..........I......... stole all your clothes while you are on vacation - I stole enough to have a non repeating matching outfit with accessories for every single day this week and I am really sorry and I will wash them all and return them to your drawers and hangers before you get home from the lake and you will never ever find out I know we are sisters for goodness sakes and I shouldn't have but but I just couldn't help myself because they were just there and well you were just not and I love them all and I want them and I wish they were mine.

Oh yah, did I mention she is 16?

I came across this super awesome contest when I was reading up on some of my favorite blogs today - Dana of Old Red Barn is giving away this handmade quilt made from Sandi Henderson's Ginger Blossom line (which I have been drooling over lately). It is gorgeous and so worth entering. You can leave a comment here to enter to win, and while you're at it read about some other ways to enter to earn additional entry credits to increase your chances of winning (which you can see I have done here!). Wow! I love it and it would be so cool if I or someone I knew won! You have until Tuesday July 22nd to get your little bootaaay over there and enter. Good luck!

Happy Thursday! Ahhh the week is almost over and I am looking forward to sleeping in on Saturday and maybe finally trying to get in the garage, aka the pit. The angle that the wind blows and swirls outside our garage door just traps leaves and dirt terribly. It needs help! I am trying to start buying extra of a lot of grocery and supply items for a little stockpile/garage pantry overflow. I need some cupboards and shelves for this, which I don't have at the moment. If anyone knows anyone who is remodeling a kitchen and is getting rid of old cupboards let me know. I would be happy to come pick them up from whoever has them. Cupboards with doors preferably, dusty cans and boxes of food sends me over the edge. Especially since our garage seems to really attract dirt and leaves.

Last Sunday The Queen brought me a gorgeous jar of homemade plum jam. Amazing! I only slightly wish I didn't know how many cups of sugar the recipe called for... but hey, it's deliciously fresh and I am going to eat it all. I am not really interested in sharing.

A happy green shirt for a happy Thursday. When I was in the store trying it on the color made me nervous. I wanted to prove to myself that I could pull something off that I knew made me nervous so I bought it. Still makes me nervous, but I am dealing.

Have you heard the new Beck single Gamma Ray? Seriously sinister and seriously awesome. You can listen to it here. I love the breathy backwards vocals, gives me an eerie happy feeling.

Bet you never had a cat that sleeps like this. Don't let her fool you - it's not because she's hot.

This is the way to be comfortable, if you happen to be Mary Jane. This little kitty has some funny ways. See her lack of tail? Billy saw a cat poster at the vet that stated her kind as "American Bobtail." That's what we're going with anyway.

My cats are my children, except they are better. On the whole there is no talking back. Mary Jane challenges that - she doesn't shut up. Ok by me though, I've never minded conversations with cats. You may scrunch your forehead in bewilderment at this. Oh yes, I've had them.

This American Life

Happy 4th of July! Ahhh, to me the 4th marks summer and heat and long days. Today was exceptional, and just what I needed after a long week of work. And I did NOTHING. It was glorious. I even took a nap and ate ice cream. But I guess I do that all the time. Well, the ice cream part anyway! Even though we did nothing today we did manage to cook up a mean dinner.
Yes, that is a bacon wrapped fillet you see in the back there, rosemary garlic mashed potatoes, the famous Woodson Caesar and fresh grilled vegetables basted with herbs and olive oil. Looks massive but it was seriously one of the easiest dinners we have made in a while. And a husband who cooks! I'm never letting this one go!

Just up the street we climbed up a hill and had a spectacular view of Vista's firework show. This year marked 40 years of fireworks for the city of Vista which has the biggest show in all of North County. The fireworks show was awesome tonight, 20 glorious minutes of color bursting in tonights warm, still sky. Ooohhh my favorite are the spiraly white ones that whistle and then explode into twinkles. Haven't seen a show that good in years. It was a wonderful day! Happy 4th everyone!
