Summer Thoughts

Just a little eye candy here - these lovely blooms were a Farmer's Market find from Saturday. The pinks and yellows just get me in the mood for thinking about summer, don't you think? I am starting to prepare a mental list of my goals for the summer. Billy is done with his school semester and has lots of plans that include growing mass amounts of vegetables. Cooking, crafting, and definitely some sewing are on my list. Billy has been itching for us to bake bread. I have been itching to steal the desk he uses for a nightstand so I can turn it into an organized and official space for crown making. So many little things to think about.

I have finally started using the San Diego County Library's online system for requesting and reserving books, which I think will come in very handy. White Oleander is ready for me... I loved the movie when it came out years ago and am really looking forward to reading the book. I can walk to the library from my house, but I wish I had a bike. Like a teal and white beach cruiser, yeah! I have been seeing this very sweet looking blond girl, probably my age, riding her teal and white cruiser near the movie theater lately, and I am enviously every time I see her. Umm books! I digress. Any Summer reading suggestions? I am totally in the mood<3

Saturday Market

Saturday we finally got over to the Farmers Market for the first time this season. They moved it at the end of last season, so now I can't conveniently walk over like I used to - I have to drive. But it was totally worth it... there were so many amazing things to look at and take home.
Our Market doesn't compare to some towns out there I'm sure, but I love it as part of our city. It's the colors of a patchwork quilt, a spring quilt, blooming from the earthy ground.
A feast for the eyes and the tongue... especially the fresh cherry apple juice we shared.
I will be back soon Market. Promise <3

Long Weekend

Oh Friday, I love you so.

Friday is my favorite day of the week because it holds something no other day of the week holds - an excited anticipation of what the weekend will bring. All my life I have loved the mystery of Friday. Growing up, it was like anything could happen. Anything. Unfortunately as I get older my weekends tend to be mostly predictable, but sometimes it is still fun to wonder. Sometimes I want to take off towards the mountains - and end up in Julian eating pie. Other times I want to drive up the coast and back, just to see what I would find.

This weekend is a lucky long weekend. Summer is coming, I can feel it. Who knows what could happen? I do know I have three whole days to find out.

What about you? What do you have planned this Memorial Day weekend? Whatever you do, have fun <3

A Birthday Gift for Char

Saturday I finished another crown, designed for one of my Mom's friends, Char. I love how this one turned out, and she totally loved it too. I am getting really excited about the possibilities for these handmades I have been designing - and I feel like I am getting through a lot of hurdles when it comes to figuring out the best way to do things. And everyone who gets one or sees them absolutely loves what they see.
My Mom's friend Char works at a one of the local scrapbook stores here in Vista and we asked if she would consider me bringing a small handful of crowns into the store to sell on consignment. She thought they could, and I am totally excited. Before my mom asked about putting them on consignment, Char asked her if I would want to teach a class at the store on how to make them. I was glad my mom told her that I wanted to sell them rather than teach people how to make them - I don't exactly want to share my whole process! Consignment... we will see what comes of it.
So we will see
what becomes
of Modern Crush.

Morning Dew

These orange friends
bring a lot of joy
to this little life of mine...
I hope that maybe I too
bring a little joy to theirs.

To Warm Their Home

Last night I finished the last of the binding for the quilt I have been at for the last month. I have two crowns to make with a delivery date of this Sunday, and Billy told me I could absolutely not start the crowns until the quilt was done. Eek, I had to move fast. I am glad I listened to my husband though because I am so relieved to see it finished. It's evolution was at times tedious and stressful but it was worth it. I love its perfection and its faults alike, they make up its character - every quilt has its own personality. I hope my friends love it as much as I do, and hope that it will serve their home well.
My only regret is that I didn't have it machine quilted. It is tacked in increments with embroidery thread which is fine, but having machine quilted would have been lovely. It's ok, it would have cost a small fortune because this quilt is huge - just over 6 and a half feet square, and I had already spent a lot on the fabric itself - Amy Butler fabric isn't exactly the cheapest.
Oh ya! There is a little secret inside the batting... I slipped a 2009 penny in there. Just a little momento...

Friday Night

Shopping for a Prom dress for Deanna was harder than we thought.
We tried on a lot, but nothing fit quite right. They were lovely dresses...
Of course we had to stop to admire Anthropology's window display. I am loving the honeycombs out of cardboard.
Empty handed but still with a happy <3
